What is synthetic ice?

Simple installation thanks to the puzzle-shaped panels and their click system.

Synthetic ice consists of high-quality synthetic panels. The elements are stackable and can easily be lifted by 2 people. Art-Ice can be laid on any firm and even surface. The panels are laid directly onto the surface and can be assembled seamlessly. The same is true for dismantling. The panels’ thickness varies from 8mm to 20mm.

A precision dovetail system ensures a seamless assembly of the panels. The border elements can be fitted with boarding. When all the elements are assembled, you will have a firm skating surface. An area of 30m² can be installed within 1 hour, depending on the number of helpers.

 

Gliding on liquid

As a basic principle, the blades of ice skates glide on a film of liquid. Even on common ice gliding would be impossible without this film – in this case, a film of water.

On synthetic ice, just like with common ice-skating, the blade glides on ice. This is made possible through the addition of various substances to the synthetic material. Hence common of-the-shelf ice skates can be used. No special grounding or polishing is necessary, but due to comparatively high levels of abrasion the blades need to be sharpened more often. The additional application of lubricants is not required.

Durability is not a problem

Through the dovetail system, the use of tools is almost obsolete.

Abrasion is minimal, so that the average life expectancy ranges from 10 to 15 years depending on the kind of use indoors or outdoors. The theoretical operating life expectancy of a 20mm panel due to abrasion through heavy wear (at least 6 hours per day) is approximately 20 years.

The skating surface requires hardly any maintenance. Brushing at the end of the day is sufficient to prepare the rink, and ready it for the next day. The floor needs to be polished regularly by using a polishing machine.
